Joey Huestis

Art is everywhere. It’s what changes our world for the better and is a mirror of our society. Finding it is responsible for many adventures and stories througout our collective and personal history.
As a painter, graphic designer and photographer for 25 years, an adventure begins for me when I salvage one of the many photographs I have taken and re-adopt it while exploring a folder I keep on my computer called “Orphans.”
They are all misfits – and there’s something usually terribly wrong with them conventionally  – that were taken on a digital or SLR camera, or my iPhone, somewhere along my path as a professional in the print media industry. They are ‘damaged goods’ that I see an artistic value in.
A whimsical brightness. An enchanting story. A dark feature. A dichotomy that becomes something bigger than its conception. They are truly orphans. And there's a story behind each one of them.
The images are all my own. They have been given a new life thanks to today’s technology and conscientiously ‘remastered’ into a collective artistic series.  They are available in various standard sizes, framed or unframed, and each one is signed.
I hope you enjoy the story behind these Orphans, and that they may, in some small way, make your day adventurous.
OldPaintStudios.com - which is in development – has been a dream of mine for many years. In addition to offering my Graphic Design and Photography services, OPS will feature the works of other artists in a Web Gallery and help them break-out into the commercial art market. After spending much of my life promoting other artists, working in the corporate art world and fine art galleries in the Bay Area, I am pleased to finally be able to offer my art to the public and continue helping other artists make a living in the art world.
Huestis has lived all over the West Coast, Montana, Colorado, Oklahoma and Mexico, and now in Oakdale, California, not far from where she was born in San Jose. She lives with her husband of 23 years, Danny, and two college-aged children, Brett and Sydney, who have shared in many of the adventures she's captured in her artworks.
